Best friends are so special! Samantha and Emery have been best friends for as long as they can remember (since 1st grade, I think). We had so much fun commemorating their friendship during a photo shoot during the Thanksgiving break, and learned some fun facts about them both! Samantha’s family is planning a move next summer, but I’m sure these two will find plenty of time for visits. Love you girls!
We had so much fun photographing Abby and Stacey last week! These two best friends are Seniors and trying to decide which college to make their own for the next four years. Regardless of the schools they choose, I’m looking forward to seeing the paths they take during their academic careers. We’re expecting great things from these two!
Here’s a sneak peek, Abby and Stacey!
We had the honor of photographing Sara and Greg’s wedding at the Switzerland Inn just north of Asheville last weekend. Although it was a rainy day, the rain let up long enough for us to go outside for some group photos after the ceremony. Here’s one of my favorites, which also shows a bit of the view:
Sara and Greg are world travelers, and thus travel was the fitting theme for the weekend. At the reception, the guests were treated to View Finders (remember those?) with custom slides of some of the couple’s travels and other unique travel mementos.
Congratulations, Greg and Sara! We can’t wait to see where your next adventure takes you!

Let Them Eat Cake – Wedding Cake, That is!
Brides – and grooms – are busy planning spring and summer weddings, so a post on wedding cakes seems appropriate. Plus, wedding cakes bring some color and cheer to these snowy, wintry days.
Wedding cakes come in all sizes, shapes, and colors, not to mention flavors. When photographing summer weddings in Texas, I saw cakes whose top layers shifted, and everyone who noticed said a little prayer! Fortunately, that problem doesn’t seem to be as prevalent in the mountains of Western North Carolina.
To brighten your winter day, enjoy these images of some of my favorite wedding cakes.
And now for a few groom’s cakes!
I was so excited to photograph Madi and Dustin’s wedding in Dallas on November 23rd. Madi was a beautiful bride, and she and Dustin are such a perfect couple. The ceremony and reception were held at the Filter Building at White Rock Lake, and although it was blustery day, we managed to fit in a few outdoor photos. What a wonderful, unique venue! We enjoyed spending the day with Madi and Dustin and their families. All of the guests enjoyed the day too, as was evident by all of the laughter, dancing, and celebration.
Here are a few “sneak peeks” from Madi and Dustin’s big day! The rest of the images will be available next week, and Madi will have the log-in information.
Last week, I was delighted to participate in a waterfall photography workshop sponsored by Bluewood Gallery in Brevard, and led by photographer Ken Voltz. Transylvania County is home to numerous waterfalls, and Ken selected some of the best for us to photograph. For the adventuresome, some of these locations would make excellent backdrops for senior or engagement portraits! Here are a few images from the workshop. Enjoy!
I was thrilled to photograph Alyssa and Matt’s wedding last weekend at the Grand Bohemian Hotel in Asheville. Although it was a rainy day, Alyssa was radiant, and she and Matt are a wonderful couple. (Ironically, they relocated from North Carolina to Austin, Texas, about the same time that we relocated from Dallas to North Carolina!) We had a fun day, and I was so glad to get to know her parents and their extended families during the day. Alyssa’s sister, Jadyn, was her flower girl, and she always had a smile on her beautiful face. Her love for her big sister was obvious to everyone! The Grand Bohemian was an excellent venue in the heart of Asheville.
I had the pleasure of photographing my first North Carolina wedding last week! The Fields of Blackberry Cove, located near Weaverville, provided a lovely setting for this happy couple. Doug provides an exceptional venue and will exceed the expectations of brides, grooms, and guests. Here are a few of the wedding details, and the cutest ring bearer since my grandson, Judah! Enjoy!
I have relocated to the mountains of Western North Carolina!
Photography – and other things (like this blog) – had to take a backseat while the move was in progress, but I have been fortunate to meet some wonderful, friendly people, including fellow photographers, who have welcomed us to the WNC community. We are in the Brevard-Asheville-Waynesville area, and ready to pursue all of the photographic opportunities that abound in this area of the country.
Our county is known as The Land of Waterfalls, and boasts some 250 cascading treasures. The falls in the images below are located within walking distance – Connestee Falls and Batson Creek Falls.
I’ll be photographing my first North Carolina wedding later this month, and will be offering portrait mini-sessions over Labor Day Weekend.
