What Makes a Resilient City?

Posted on: April 22nd, 2013 by Kathy King No Comments

Featured speakers Thomas Homer-Dixon and Eric Klinenberg explored the topic of resiliency during the “What Makes a Resilient City?” conference sponsored by the Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture. Following a welcoming reception at the home of Gail and Bob Thomas on Thursday evening, the conference convened at Dallas City Hall on Friday morning, April 19th.  The conference was well attended by Dallas civic and community leaders, and I was honored to be able to photograph the events. Homer-Dixon, Klinenberg, and the panel members provided varying insights to the questions posed by the Institute.

Dallas International Film Festival

On April 12, 2013, I was excited to photograph The Dallas Film Society Honors event, presented by the Arthur E. Benjamin Foundation. The Dallas International Film Festival announced its 2013 award winners at the event. Mr. Benjamin dedicated his sponsorship to the memory of his dear friend, Larry Hagman.  Val Kilmer presented one of two Dallas Star awards to William Friedkin (director of The Exorcist and The French Connection, among others).  The Dallas Film Society presented the second Dallas Star award to Sherry Lansing, the first woman president of a major studio (20th Century Fox, president 1984; Paramount Pictures, CEO, 1992-2005). These are a few photos from the evening’s festivities.
